Do you ever get bored drinking the same wine over and over again? Ever find yourself looking for fun alternatives? 􏰄t can be tricky branching out from your tried and true favorites, so let me be your guide to a new and delicious grape: Mourvedre.

􏰄If you love Cabernet Sauvignon, then Mourvedre is right up your alley. Originating in Spain (where it’s also known as Monastrell), it’s full-bodied and rustic. I􏰄t is often used in red blends and is the “M” in GSM in the Rhone Valley of France and Paso Robles.

After 30 years of working in the industry, Denise McKahn finally convinced her husband, daughter, and son to all start a winery together in 2014. 􏰄It truly is a family run business, with mom & dad running the show and daughter & son running day-to-day operations and winemaking.

This Mourvedre scored 94 points from the Wine Enthusiast and out of a fantastic line up, this was the stand out from my tasting with McKahn, which kind of fell in my lap… Denise McKahn had reached out to me on Linked􏰄n and the next week she was in our shop showing o􏰅 their wines. 􏰄t’s a savory wine, aromas lead o􏰅 with Herbs de Provence, raspberry jam, boysenberry syrup, steak tartare, and black pepper. 􏰄t is intensely rich, the mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth tannins and a long finish. A beautifully done Mourvedre from Livermore.

Pair this intensely rich wine with Lamb Stew, Baked Shiitake Mushrooms or Pork Sausage Meatballs – anything that will hold up to the bold fl􏰆avors in the wine.
